Network cable connections worksheet - SAN Volume Controller 2145-DH8

During the planning process, complete the cable-connection tables with the locations of the cable connections for each control enclosure in the system.

Ethernet connections

Figure 1. Ethernet ports on the rear of the enclosure
Ethernet ports on the rear of the enclosure
  •  1  1 Gbps Ethernet port 1
  •  2  1 Gbps Ethernet port 2
  •  3  1 Gbps Ethernet port 3
Up to three 1 Gbps Ethernet cables can be connected to the enclosure.

Each node canister in the control enclosure connects over an Ethernet cable from Ethernet port 1 of the canister to an enabled port on your Ethernet switch or router. Ethernet port 1 is for accessing the management GUI, for accessing the service assistant GUI for the node canister, and for iSCSI host attachment.

You can also attach an Ethernet cable from Ethernet port 2 on the canister to your Ethernet network. Port 2 can be used for the management GUI and for iSCSI host attachment. Ports 3 and 4 are for iSCSI attachment only.

If the 10 Gbps Ethernet feature is installed, you can connect Ethernet optical cables to 10 Gbps Ethernet ports as required by your configuration. Figure 2 shows an example of an enclosure with the 10 Gbps Ethernet feature installed in slot 2.

  •  4  10 Gbps Ethernet port 5
  •  5  10 Gbps Ethernet port 6
  •  6  10 Gbps Ethernet port 7

Record the node canister onboard Ethernet port connections in the following table.

Fibre Channel connections

If the Fibre Channel feature is installed, you can connect Fibre Channel cables to the Fibre Channel ports as required by your configuration. The following figure shows an example of an enclosure with the Fibre Channel feature installed in slot 1.
