Fibre Channel ports and indicators
If you specified Fibre Channel adapters for your system, the adapters are preinstalled in each node canister.
Each 4-port Fibre Channel can have from two to four short wave (SW) small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers installed. Cap unused ports with safety caps.
Fibre Channel adapter ports
Fibre Channel ports 1 are in 1 - 4 order, starting from the left. Ports and their indicators are displayed below.
Each port can have up to a 16 Gbps SW SFP transceiver installed. Each transceiver connects to a host or Fibre Channel switch with an LC-to-LC Fibre Channel cable.

- 1 Fibre Channel 16 Gbps ports (x4)
- 2 Link-state LED (x4 - one for each port)
- 3 Speed-state LED (x4 - one for each port)
For additional information about how Storwize® V7000 Gen3 port numbers differ on the top and bottom canister, see Connections for Storwize V7000 Gen3 control enclosures.
Fibre Channel adapter indicators
Each Fibre Channel port has two green LED indicators. Consider the LEDs as a pair to determine the overall link state, which is described in the following table.
| Green LED | Amber LED | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Off | Off | One of the following situations is in effect:
|
| Off | On | The port is configured, but the link is not detected at the transport layer. This situation is the result of the port not being connected or of a failed link negotiation with the switch. |
| On | Off | The link is up and running at the expected port speed. This display does not necessarily imply logical connectivity, that is, completion of FLOGI or FIP. |
| On | On | The link is up, but running at a degraded speed. |
One or two Fibre Channel interface adapters can be installed in each
Storwize V7000 Gen2
or Storwize V7000 Gen2+ node canister. They can be
installed in slots 2 and 3 of the node canister. When a single interface adapter is installed in
either slot 2 or slot 3, the Fibre Channel ports on the adapter are numbered 1,
2, 3, and 4.
One or two Fibre Channel interface adapters can be installed in each
Storwize V7000 Gen3 node canister. The
first adapter must be installed in slot 1. If a second adapter is installed, it must be installed in
slot 2. The Fibre Channel ports on the adapter are numbered 1, 2,
3, and 4.
