IMPORTANT: This release of RSM for Storage works with IBM DS3000 Storage Manager version 2.17 (and higher), and IBM DS4000 Storage Manager version 9.16 (and higher) and controller firmware supported by those versions. Step by step instructions for installing and configuring the Linux OS for RSM for Storage are included in the RSM for Storage "Planning, Installation and User's Guide" If you plan to use RAID 1 (Mirroring) on one of the targeted servers that have been tested with the RSM for Storage software, please see the RSM for Storage "Installation Hints and Tips" document for additional information for setup of the server BIOS and installation of the operating system. If you plan to use another System x server you can use the RSM for Storage "Installation Hints and Tips" document as a guide, but you will need to refer to the System x support web site for instructions on how to configure the server and install the proper drivers during the installation of the Linux OS. 2.1 Step-by-step instructions for installation from a RSM for Storage CD -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This procedure may be used for first time installation or updates. For SLES 9 or SLES 10: 1. Insert the installation CD-ROM in the drive. 2. A pop-up message box will report the detection of an autorun program on the CD. Click yes to begin the installation. 3. Follow the instructions in the RSM for Storage "Planning, Installation and User's Guide" For RHEL 4: 1. Insert the installation CD-ROM in the drive. 2. Right click on CDROM icon on the desktop. Select "Mount" from the pop-up menu. 3. Left click the CDROM icon to open a view of the CDROM contents. 4. Right click on the file named autorun.sh. Select "Run" from the pop-up menu to begin the installation. 5. Follow the instructions in the RSM for Storage "Planning, Installation and User's Guide" 2.2 Instructions for installing an update from a RSM for Storage .zip file --------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can create a CDROM and use the instructions in section 2.1, or avoid the need to burn a CDROM and download the update directly into the RSM for Storage system. This procedure should only be used to apply updates to a previously installed version of RSM for Storage. Note: In the following steps, 1.x.xx is the version number of this package. 1. Log into the RSM for Storage server as the root user. 2. Download the installation file ( ibm_sw_rsm_1.x.xx_linux_32-64.zip ) to the /packages directory in the RSM for Storage server. (You may need to disable the RSM for Storage internal firewall in order to access the file.) 3. Type: cd /packages 4. Type: unzip ibm_sw_rsm_1.x.xx_linux_32-64.zip 5. Type: cd rsm-1.x.xx 6. Type: ./rsm-setup It will take about a minute to update the software.
