These are used in conjunction with the previous ADSM Version 3 Administrator's and Reference guide and the ADSM Version 3 Installing the Server and Administrative Client. These diagrams can be added to their sections for recording the SCSI ID's and device names. Element addresses are used by Tivoli Storage Manager to address the tape drive device and the storage slots contained by a SCSI Library/Autochanger. The Tivoli Storage Manager command DEFINE DRIVE utilizes the element address of each drive in a multi-drive library. The Tivoli Storage Manager command CHECKIN LIBVOL uses the address of a storage slot for libraries that do not have Entry/Exit ports. With the exception of DUAL LUN (Logical Unit Numbers) devices, you will need separate SCSI ID for your autochanger and a SCSI ID for each drive in your library device. Configure the autochanger and each drive in the library separately using the procedure described in the 'Configuring a Tape Drive, or Autochanger' section of the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide. NOTE: On some libraries, the element addresses of the cartridge slots will not directly correspond to the slot numbers (e.g. slot number 1 may be element address 2, etc.). This is important because Tivoli Storage Manager will always reference cartridge slots by element addresses, not slot numbers. Note: Tivoli Storage Manager Device Drivers only support SCSI II Hardware. _______________________________ Figure 1 ________________________________ Default Element Addresses for HP SureStore DLT Library (Galactica) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addresses Addresses of Addresses of Addresses of Model #s of Drives Storage slots Transport Entry/Exit Slots ----------- ---------- ------------- ------------ ---------------- 2/20 1~2 31~49 0 20 4/40 1~4 31~69 0 20 6/60 1~6 31~89 0 20 Storage Slots (model 6/60) ------------------------- | Drawer 5 | Drawer 6 | | slot 41-50 | slot 51~59 | | (71~80) | (81~89) |-> Entry/Exit Slot (20) |------------|------------| | Drawer 3 | Drawer 4 | | slot 21-30 | slot 31-40 | | (51~60) | (61~70) |-> For model 4/40, slot 40 will become |------------|------------| the Entry/Exit Slot with addr 20. | Drawer 1 | Drawer 2 | | slot 1-10 | slot 11-20 | | (31~40) | (41~50) |-> For model 2/20, slot 20 will become ------------------------- the Entry/Exit Slot with addr 20. --------------------------- | Drive 6 (6) | Drive 5 (5) | |---------------------------| | Drive 4 (4) | Drive 3 (3) | |---------------------------| ------------- | Drive 2 (2) | Drive 1 (1) | | Changer (0) | --------------------------- ------------- * The element addresses are in parenthesis. Setting 8 cartridges into the magazine (in the numbered sequence): ________________________ | | | |___5___|___6___|___7____ | | | |___4___|_______|___8____ | | | |___3___|___2___|___1____ This is a recommended setting. All TSM functions can be performed with this setting, i.e. label libvol, backup/archive, etc. If any cartridge is missing from 1 through 7, the magazine will be rejected by the autoloader. Slots 1 through 7 have to be loaded with data cartridges before performing any TSM functions. Due to the unique requirement of all slots which have to be loaded in the magazine; users can do either of the following for CHECKOUT process: a. Remove all volumes when checkouts are done. In this case, 'remove=no' should be specified to suppress the TSM prompt for removing the volume for each checkout. b. With default 'remove=yes', users will see TSM prompt for each checkout. In this case, if the volume is removed immediately after each reply, another volume should be placed in the original slot. The AUDIT function is highly recommended after each swap in case cartridges are loaded/removed into/from the wrong slots. 2. Setting 7 cartridges into the magazine (in the following sequence): ________________________ | | | |___5___|___6___|___7____ | | | |___4___|_______|________ | | | |___3___|___2___|___1____ If any cartridge is not loaded in one of the arrangements, the magazine will be ejected. All TSM functions can be performed with this setting as well. Same CHECKOUT process described above applies for this setting as well. 3. Setting 1 cartridge into the magazine: ________________________ | | | |_______|_______|________ | | | |_______|_______|__8/C___ | | | |_______|_______|________ The cleaning cartridge can only be placed in slot 8 or C. A data cartridge can be placed in slot 8 by itself as well. When a data cartrige is loaded, dsmlabel can be used to label the cartridge. In this case, from the control panel, load the data cartridge from slot 8 to the drive first. Then issue the dsmlabel command without the -library and -search parameters. Example: dsmlabel -drive=/specialfile/ -overwrite ** Note: Please refer to SONY TSL-11000 DDS Autoloader Unit User's Guide for detailed operations. Recommendations: ---------------- Due to the special layout of the magazine design, we recommend the following setting to be used: - Use the 8-data-cartridge setting for Tivoli Storage Manager Backup/Archive operations. - Put cleaning cartridge in its own magazine whenever cleaning is necessary. - Although it is possible, it is not recommended that a cleaning cartridge be placed in slot 8 with the 7 cartridge setting. Tivoli Storage Manager does not support this setting. With this setting, the cleaning cartridge will be loaded into the drive during certain TSM server commands such as LABEL LIBVOL, CHECKIN LIBVOL and AUDIT LIBRARY. Consequently, the drive will be unnecessarily cleaned. Notes: ------ 1. Sony TSL-11000 Autoloader does not have barcode reader. 2. Drive Cleaning can only be performed manually. Tivoli Storage Manager's Drive Cleaning support does not apply to this autoloader. 3. It is important that fast load be enabled for these Tape Libraries! If the fast load option is disabled, a SCSI move command may require addtional time to complete. The SCSI time-out values do not allow for this additional time and errors will occur. The Fast Load option is set via the front operator panel. Please read the Library Users Guide for more information. 2. Barcode is supported. 3. Auto cleaning is supported. Auto Cleaning operation is highly recommended! There are several slots reserved for cleaning cartridges in these libraries. When a cartridge with CLN on its VOLSER label is checked into the library, Auto Cleaning is enabled. Please read the Library Users Guide for more information. 4.
